AI can change the way you lead (If you harness it well...)

Can AI, leadership, and workplace culture co-exist?

As leaders working to build community, shape culture, and create belonging in our organizations, we often worry that bringing AI into the mix will strip away the human elements that make our teams thrive.

But what if we’re looking at it wrong?

I believe that AI isn’t here to replace my leadership. It's helping me become a better leader. 

Imagine AI as your co-pilot. It can chart the course, flag potential risks, and optimize the route to help you get to your destination efficiently.

Or better yet, think of it as your assistant coach. It helps you break down complex topics, analyze patterns in your outputs, and designs a better plan to help you win. 

But it’s still up to you to call the timeout, rally the team, and build trust in the locker room.

AI can get us about 62% of the way there when it comes to strengthening leadership and team culture. Why 62%? Because the remaining 38%, the stuff that actually engages people, is too complex to quantify.

These elements still depend on you:

  • Relationship-building

  • Psychological safety

  • Emotional intelligence

  • Real-time decision-making

  • Inclusion and cultural awareness

Yes, we should let AI help us streamline workflows and process information faster. But, we can't outsource what makes leadership matter: being present, curious, and connected.

In fact, AI can make your leadership more human because it gives you time and space to focus on what only you can do: listening, reflecting, including, and growing with your people.

Try This in Your Next Team Meeting:

  1. Record it with Microsoft Teams Co-Pilot, Zoom AI Companion, or Otter.ai.

  2. Let AI generate the summary, key decisions, and action items.

  3. Drop those notes into ChatGPT to draft follow-up emails or analyze patterns.

Bonus Prompt:
Ask ChatGPT: “What themes or communication gaps do you notice in this meeting transcript?”

As automation increases our efficiency, let's be leaders who are emotionally intelligent, relationally grounded, and deeply human for our teams.

Remember: Leaders Aren’t Being Replaced by AI. They Are Being Replaced by Leaders Who Know How to Use It with Heart.

Let’s lead like that.
